Ohio State's Joey Bosa pressures Michigan State quaterback Connor Cook.
INDIANAPOLIS — Ohio State’s winning streak under Urban Meyer was destined to end sometime. But the timing of the Buckeyes’ first loss under Meyer couldn’t have been much more painful. Ohio State overcame a 17-point deficit with 24 straight points, only to see Michigan State rally to win 34-24 in the Big Ten championship game.
For the Ohio State football team and its fans, the regular season came to a disappointing end -- to say the least. But the Buckeyes still will be going to a BCS bowl game and have a shot at a top-four finish. This year's BCS selection day should be void of much drama, because the five BCS games are basically already locked in.
Ohio State's LaQuinton Ross, who had 23 points, makes his presence felt on defense by blocking a shot by Central Connecticut State's Faronte Drakeford.
Ohio State fans were not the only ones, apparently, with their minds on the Big Ten football championship game yesterday. Or at least something other than the men’s basketball game at Value City Arena.
Auburn’s Tre Mason, diving over Missouri’s John Gibson, rushed for 304 yards and four touchdowns.
ATLANTA — If offense was the only requirement, Auburn would be a shoo-in for the national championship game.

CINCINNATI — The Indianapolis Colts are the team with the lucky charm on their helmets and the Andrew Luck arm running their offense, but the Cincinnati Bengals are the fortunate ones today. That’s because their key AFC showdown is being played at Paul Brown Stadium, where the weather is expected to be an issue — especially for the dome-dwelling Colts — and where the Bengals are 5-0 this season.
Sergei Bobrovsky said he could feel the pop. Maybe he could hear it, too. Just as the Blue Jackets goaltender thrust himself to his left to make a save on Tampa Bay’s J.T. Brown on Tuesday, Bobrovsky felt his left groin give way and a searing pain shoot throughout his midsection.
Cavaliers 88, Clippers 82: Kyrie Irving, coming off the first scoreless game of his career, scored 20 points and host Cleveland defeated Los Angeles last night. Tristan Thompson had 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Andrew Bynum added 18 points for Cleveland.
The Seattle Mariners and free-agent second baseman Robinson Cano agreed on a 10-year, $240 million contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press last night.
Linebacker Dante Booker, who helped lead Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary to a state title Thursday night, was named Ohio’s Mr. Football this week.
While Ohio State plays for the Big Ten championship this weekend, several future Buckeyes will be reaching for the pinnacle on the high-school level. Five of Ohio State’s 17 commitments for its 2014 recruiting class are trying to win state titles, and one has.
