There’s a lot to love about the picture above. Does anybody else see the guy with the “Tigers rule” sign wearing a St. Louis Cardinals shirt, though? Very strange.
1) Indians reliever Chris Perez is rightfully getting a lot of heat for his comments over the weekend criticizing Indians fans for now showing up to the ballpark. I’ll never blame anyone for not shelling out the high prices to park, pay for tickets and food at a major league baseball game. You’re no less of a fan if you choose to take in your favorite team from the comforts of home, especially with high definition television. I don’t agree with Perez’s comments – they’re petty and counterproductive – but I appreciate passion and honesty. If that’s how he really feels, I’m glad he’s saying it.
2) The Big Ten announced its 2015 and 2016 schedules Monday. Most notable, the Buckeyes will be going four years (2013-2016) without playing Nebraska. Something had to give since Ohio State will obviously be taking on Michigan (from the Legends division) every single year. I imagine creating the conference schedule, making the dates work and trying to please as many fans and universities as possible is close to impossible. It’s far easier to criticize the schedule makers. Still, count me in the group who thinks it sucks that the Buckeyes and Huskers would have been a great Big Ten rivalry that’ll be forgotten by the next time the two meet. We’ll enjoy this year’s game in Columbus, though!
3) It looks like Dwight Howard won, as we expected he would. The Orlando Magic fired both General Manager Otis Smith and Coach Stan Van Gundy Monday afternoon. There’s no way to know if this’ll be enough to appease Orlando’s superstar but one thing is for sure – they’re a long ways away from competing with the likes of Miami, San Antonio and Oklahoma City. Could Dwight be out of Orlando next?
