Ohio State women's basketball: Stokes’ knee injury is healing quickly

High Contrast Normal Version

Ohio State senior guard Amber Stokes said yesterday that her rehabilitation for a sprained left knee is progressing faster than initially hoped.

Stokes suffered the injury in a game on Jan. 6 against Illinois and received a four- to six-week timetable for a possible return to the Buckeyes. She began participating in light practice drills on Thursday, 18 days after the injury.

“It’s feeling great,” Stokes said. “It’s getting stronger. Rehab has been rough, but I’m getting through it.”

She said it’s hard not to play.

“Trust me, it is,” Stokes said. “I’ve been through this before. If it’s not ready, it’s not ready.”

The Buckeyes play host to Penn State Sunday afternoon in Value City Arena.

“People want me to play,” Stokes said. “I want to play. But if it’s not there, there’s no reason to force it. Just get ready and look forward to Nebraska (on Thursday).”
