Ohio Roundup: Balanced Dayton adds to Duquesne’s slump

Josh Benson’s 17 points led five Dayton scorers in double figures, and the host Flyers defeated Duquesne 72-56 yesterday.

Dayton (12-7, 2-3 Atlantic 10) began the second half with an 11-2 run for a 41-26 advantage.

Dayton limited Duquesne’s two leading scorers, Sean Johnson and Derrick Colter, to two points each. Colter was 0 of 11 from the field and Johnson 1 of 6 as the Dukes (7-13, 0-6) lost their eighth consecutive game.

Dyshawn Pierre scored 13 points and Kevin Dillard, Vee Sanford and Northland graduate Jalen Robinson scored 10 each for the Flyers.

Saint Joseph’s 59, Xavier 49 — Langston Galloway, Carl Jones and Halil Kanacevic each posted 15 points to help host Saint Joseph’s (11-7, 2-3 Atlantic 10) rally and beat Xavier (11-8, 4-2).

Semaj Christon scored 16 points for the Musketeers, who shot 21 of 61 from the field, including 1 of 13 three-point attempts.

Ball State 82, Miami University 62 — Majok Majok scored 21 points and Jesse Berry 20 to lead Ball State (8-10, 2-4) to a Mid-American Conference victory over host Miami University (7-11, 2-4).

With a 58-54 lead, Ball State put the game away with a 12-0 run. Akron 68, Buffalo 64 — Alex Abreu scored 13 points, including three key free throws in the closing seconds, and host Akron (15-4, 6-0 MAC) won its 11th straight game, beating Buffalo (7-13, 2-4). Akron held Buffalo without a basket for more than 10 minutes in a 24-6 run that gave the Zips a 61-57 lead. DePauw 65, Ohio Wesleyan 63, OT — Connor Rich made two free throws with five seconds remaining in overtime to give host DePauw (13-6, 6-4) a victory over Ohio Wesleyan (14-4, 7-3) in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Capital 82, Mount Union 73 — Michael Sommer scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half to help visiting Capital (13-6, 10-2 Ohio Capital Conference) pull away from Mount Union (8-11, 6-6).

Capital remained tied with Marietta for first place in the conference.

Baldwin Wallace 74, Otterbein 60 — Kyle Payne scored 22 points to lead host Baldwin Wallace (14-5, 9-3 OAC) past Otterbein (7-12, 4-8). Max Van Meter scored 16 points for Otterbein.

Lake Erie 69, Ohio Dominican 50 — Lake Erie (6-11, 3-10) used a 14-0 run in the second half to beat host Ohio Dominican (4-15, 1-13) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
