Around college basketball: Missouri claws back to stun Florida
Missouri 63, No. 5 Florida 60: Laurence Bowers had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and host Missouri erased a 13-point deficit in the second half to upset Florida in a Southeastern Conference game last night.
Phil Pressey added 10 assists, seven points, six rebounds and three steals for Missouri (19-7, 8-5). The Tigers didn’t have Bowers a month ago in a 31-point loss at Florida.
Mike Rosario had 14 points for Florida (21-4, 11-2) but missed a three-point try as time expired.
MEN’S TOP 25 HIGHLIGHT
No. 2 Miami 54, Virginia 50: Reggie Johnson made a tie-breaking layup with 5.7 seconds left, and host Miami (22-3, 13-0) held off Virginia (18-8, 8-5) in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Ohio Wesleyan 77, Denison 56: Taylor Rieger scored 23 points and host Ohio Wesleyan (20-5) defeated Denison (9-17) in a quarterfinal of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament.
Ohio Wesleyan will play Kenyon in a semifinal on Friday at Wooster.
Mount Union 66, Otterbein 60: Steve Griffin scored 21 points to lead host Mount Union (12-14) past Otterbein (8-19) in a quarterfinal of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament.
Jake Bischoff and Max Van Meter scored 12 points each to lead Otterbein.
WOMEN’S TOP 25 HIGHLIGHT
No. 21 Syracuse 58, Rutgers 45: Kayla Alexander and Elashier Hall converted three-point plays to key a decisive second-half spurt, and host Syracuse (22-3, 10-2) beat Rutgers (14-11, 5-7) in the Big East Conference.
Syracuse’s victory kept Scarlet Knights coach C. Vivian Stringer from getting her 900th victory.
Stringer is seeking to become the fourth women’s coach to reach 900 victories along with Pat Summitt, Jody Conradt and Sylvia Hatchell, who reached the milestone on Feb. 7.
Stringer’s next chance will come on Saturday at St. John’s.
