Coach Thad Matta likes the arrangement of games on the Ohio State men’s basketball team’s nonconference schedule next season, saying the tests against major-conference competition will be well-spaced before the Buckeyes enter Big Ten play.
“I like the fact we’ve got some challenges,” said Matta, whose team will travel to Marquette on Nov. 16, play host to Maryland on Dec. 4 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge and take on Notre Dame on Dec. 21 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“I think that will be a pretty good start into the Big Ten season,” Matta said yesterday after that portion of the schedule was announced. The Big Ten schedule will be announced later this summer, as will a date and opponent for an exhibition game and the remaining starting times and the networks that will televise each game.
Ohio State also will play Ohio University for the first time in 19 years on Nov. 12 at Value City Arena.
The date of the last nonconference game will be set after Ohio State knows when it will open the Big Ten season. Teams’ first conference games will be played on Dec. 31, a conference official said.
