Clippers 5, Indians 2: Santos’ triple key hit in victory

Omir Santos had three RBI, including two on a two-out triple in the eighth inning, to send the Clippers to a 5-2 win over the host Indianapolis Indians last night at Victory Field.

Nate Spears reached base on a walk for the Clippers in the eighth and the score tied at 2. He advanced to third on a single to center field by Ryan Rohlinger. After Justin Toole popped out for the second out, Santos connected on 1-and-1 pitch from Vic Black, a soft line drive into right for a triple.

Santos also drove in a run with a double in the second. Justin Toole and Spears also the other two RBI.

The Clippers’ C.C. Lee (1-0) pitched one inning, allowing one hit. Starter T.J. House went six innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned). He struck out six and walked one. The Clippers have won two straight games.

The Indians scored first on a Robert Andino double in the first. In the sixth, an error let the Indians tie the score at 2. Matt Hague reached base on a missed catch error by first baseman Chun-Hsiu Chen, and Alex Presley scored on the play.

Brooks Brown (6-5) faced three batters in the eighth and was charged with both runs.
