The website Baseball Prospectus had the Cincinnati Reds’ odds of making the playoffs at 95.4 percent entering last night’s games. But even in a season of 162 games, certain games can feel bigger than others. Wednesday’s 10-0 victory over the National League Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals was one of those.
“The panic button, we don’t need to hit it just yet — but it’s coming up,” Reds starter Homer Bailey said after his dominating performance. “This last month is going to be big. With these teams that we’re playing so much — and teams like the Nationals and Diamondbacks who are on paper right there behind us, they’re a little ways behind us, but you better keep going forward or you’ll get caught.”
