Browns: Fozzy Whittaker feeds off solid foundation

Rookie Fozzy Whittaker, catching a touchdown pass last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, could see an expanded role in kick returns after a season-ending knee injury to Travis Benjamin.

BEREA, Ohio — University of Texas football coach Mack Brown chuckles at the memory of starting tailback Fozzy Whittaker ambling across campus with a Captain America backpack strapped across his shoulders.

“He didn’t care whether people made fun of him,” Brown said. “Fozzy is who he is, and he’s very proud of it.”

Whittaker, a running back/kick returner for the Browns, owns Captain America figurines, Captain America T-shirts, Captain America gloves and socks, Captain America boxers and briefs and a Captain America costume and shield.

Whittaker isn’t a superhero — only the son of one.
