Around college basketball: Kellogg hits key three for Ohio

Ohio University 70, Richmond 69, OT: DeSales graduate Nick Kellogg made a three-pointer with 7.8 seconds left in overtime, giving Ohio University a victory over host Richmond yesterday.

Maurice Ndour shook off flu-like symptoms and led the Bobcats (8-3) with 19 points. Kellogg and Ricardo Johnson each had 14.

Richmond (8-4) went scoreless for a stretch of 91/2 minutes in the second half.

Kendall Anthony of Richmond forced overtime with a basket that tied the score at 61 with 23 seconds left in regulation.

 

YESTERDAY’S MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

 

No. 10 Connecticut 82, Washington 70: Shabazz Napier scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half and added six rebounds to lead Connecticut (10-1) over Washington (6-5).

Southern California 79, Dayton 76, OT: Pe’Shon Howard hit an off-balance three-pointer as time expired to lift host Southern California (8-4) to an overtime victory over Dayton (9-3). Jordan Sibert led the Flyers with 21 points.

Purdue 73, West Virginia 70: Terone Johnson scored 20 points and made two key free throws late to lead Purdue (10-3) past host West Virginia (7-5).

Grant out at Notre Dame because of academics

Notre Dame will play the rest of the season without leading scorer Jerian Grant.

The university posted a statement from Grant on its website that said he is no longer enrolled “due to an academic matter that I did not handle properly.”

The news came a day after the Irish (8-4) squandered an eight-point lead in the final 50 seconds in a loss to Ohio State at Madison Square Garden.

YESTERDAY’S WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

 

No. 2 Duke 69, No. 5 Kentucky 61: Tricia Liston scored a season-high 28 points to help Duke (12-1) defeat host Kentucky (11-1) before 23,706 fans at Rupp Arena, the largest crowd to see a women’s basketball game in Kentucky.

No. 18 Purdue 57, Bowling Green 48: KK Hauser made two free throws with 21 seconds left to help host Purdue (9-2) hold off Bowling Green (9-2).
