Ohio State roundup: Baseball team defeats The Citadel on walk-off single

Ronnie Dawson delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Ohio State defeated The Citadel 5-4 yesterday in Orlando, Fla.

After Kuhn was hit by a pitch, Pat Porter and Josh Dezse walked, setting up Dawson with one out.

Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, the Buckeyes (4-2) took a 4-1 lead on an RBI groundout by Tim Wetzel, an RBI infield single by Troy Kuhn and a two-run single by Porter.

OSU starter Ryan Riga allowed four runs, but reliever Jake Post struck out six, allowing two hits and two walks over the final four innings.

Women’s hockey

Ohio State (14-15-5, 9-14-5) swept the two-game set over North Dakota (17-11-4, 14-10-4) with a 3-1 victory in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at the OSU Ice Rink.

Chelsea Knapp made 30 saves and moved into a tie for the most victories (42) in OSU history.

Men’s lacrosse

Jesse King had four goals and two assists and Ohio State (1-2) defeated Marquette (1-2) 11-7 at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Carter Brown added a goal and three assists for OSU, which scored six unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead in the second quarter.

The Buckeyes won 14 of 21 faceoffs and got nine saves from goalie Greg Dutton.

Women’s lacrosse

Boston College (3-0) scored eight second-half goals to defeat Ohio State (2-2) 9-7 in Newton, Mass.

Men’s tennis

Top-ranked Ohio State won all four singles matches and improved to 14-0 this season in defeating Notre Dame 4-2 in South Bend, Ind.
