Ohio State roundup: Women’s hockey loses playoff series

The Ohio State women’s hockey team’s season ended with a 5-1 loss to host Minnesota Duluth yesterday in Game 3 of its first-round Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series.

The Buckeyes (15-17-5) were within a goal of the Bulldogs (16-14-6) until midway through the final period, and the hosts added two empty-net goals in the final moments.

Senior goaltender Lisa Steffes made 19 saves for the Buckeyes, and Kayla Sullivan scored in the first period.


Ohio State lost 3-2 to host East Carolina in the final of the Keith LeClair Classic.

Ohio State (7-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Troy Kuhn led off the game with a triple and Pat Porter followed with an RBI single. But Ohio State didn’t score again until the ninth.

The Pirates (6-5) scored two off Buckeyes starter Zach Farmer in the bottom of the second and added a run in the third.
