Ohio State sports notebook: Wetzel, Dawson homer in Ohio State baseball win

Tim Wetzel hit a two-run home run and Ronnie Dawson had an inside-the-park homer to lead Ohio State to a 5-2 victory over Northwestern in a Big Ten baseball game at Bill Davis Stadium.

Greg Greve (7-4) held the Wildcats (19-33, 7-16) to two runs and seven hits in eight innings. Troy Kuhn had two hits and drove in a run for the Buckeyes (30-26, 10-14).

• Freshman Frederik Hammer of Ohio State shot an 8-under 64 to set a collegiate course record in the final round of the NCAA Columbia Regional at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Hammer finished with a 5-over 221 total, good for a tie for 43rd place. Ohio State finished 12th in the team standings at 23-over 887.
