Heather & Stefanie's Team
Race for the Cure
This year, Komen Columbus Race for the Cure participants will have an opportunity to honor the memories of two prominent and beloved members of the central Ohio community.
Building on last year's outpouring of support and enthusiasm for "Heather's Team," 10TV, along with 97.1 The Fan, and local partners Wolfe Enterprises, Columbus Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Charles Penzone, Inc, and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute are enabling 2010 Race for the Cure registrants to join "Heather and Stefanie's Team," which will honor both Heather Pick and Stefanie Spielman. Pick, a 10TV morning anchor who died of breast cancer in 2008, and Spielman, the wife of NFL and Ohio State star Chris Spielman, who lost her battle with the disease in November 2009, were close friends and unwavering champions of breast cancer awareness, education, detection and research.
Those who register to be part of "Heather & Stefanie's Team" will pay $47 and receive a t-shirt with Pick and Spielman pictured on the front, a pink wig, race registration and a race t-shirt, which will be mailed directly to them. Proceeds from the sale of the team shirts and wigs will go directly to Komen Columbus.
Local support, global impact
"The passion and spirit of Heather and Stefanie will always live on in the hearts of all of us at 10TV, 97.1 The Fan, and the central Ohio community," said 10TV President and General Manager Tom Griesdorn. "They both worked tirelessly to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer and allowing our viewers and community members to get involved in continuing their fight is a way we can help pay tribute and remember them."
"The Race For The Cure was incredibly important to Stefanie and Heather," said Stefanie's husband Chris Spielman, also an on-air personality at 97.1 The Fan. "This year, we will be celebrating these two amazing women, who will be with us in spirit. Hopefully this year's event gets us one step closer to victory over this terrible disease."
"The Charles Penzone Salons are very proud to continue their partnership with 10TV and the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure for 2010. Our entire team graciously donates the power of their hands in support of fighting breast cancer. We are all so excited to join Heather & Stefanie's amazing team!" said Debra Penzone, president of Charles Penzone, Inc.
"Heather and Stefanie publicly shared their battles in order to educate, motivate, and most of all inspire," says Michael A. Caligiuri, MD, Director of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center and CEO of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. "We are proud to be a part of Heather & Stefanie's Team and honor the memories of these two remarkable women at Race for the Cure. They both left us with a legacy of hope that meant so much to so many. At the OSUCCC-James, we are driven every day to continue this fight and to someday create a cancer-free world."
